GREATER UNDERSTANDING LEADS TO HEALTHIER OUTCOMES
PEDAGOGUES FROM CENTRAL BOSNIA CANTON ORGANIZED TRAININGS IN BEHAVIORAL AND EMOTIONAL DISORDERS OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Central Bosnia Canton pedagogues, who attended at the beginning of April the seminar "Behavioral and emotional disorders of children and adolescents – greater understanding leads to healthier outcomes", led by Nermina Kravić, M.D., prepared and held trainings in May 2018 for their school colleagues on the topic of greater understanding of this area and better approach to issues they face at school. With pedagogues and psychologists of this canton as moderators, lower grade teachers and subject teachers at 11 schools had the chance to learn about different behavioral disorders of children and their symptoms, and share their experiences and thoughts on difficulties they face in their search for appropriate methods of working with these children and their parents.
The results of a Baseline study conducted by TPO Foundation in 2017 in 30 primary schools in three cantons indicated the presence of student delinquency issues and different forms of disorders in behavior which are often the result or cause of some types of violence, including peer, domestic and gender-based violence. The need for additional education of teaching staff in the area of violence prevention and reduction has contributed to plans for education of pedagogues and teachers in 31 primary schools in three cantons. As part of the second year of the "Peer and gender-based violence" project, during April and May, TPO Foundation organized trainings for pedagogues and teachers entitled "Behavioral and emotional disorders of children and adolescents".

With the help from CBC Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, we were able to support pedagogues and to attend the trainings they prepared for their colleagues.
The aim of these trainings was to empower school employees for offering efficient and adequate help to children with behavioral problems and their parents who often have trouble accepting the fact that their child has a behavioral or emotional disorder.
Primary schools were the educational activities were organized are: Bila, Nova Bila, Edhem Mulabdić in Opare from Novi Travnik, Treća osnovna škola in Bugojno, Prva osnovna škola Jaklić in Bugojno, Berta Kučera in Jajce, Ivan Goran Kovačić in Gojevići from Fojnica, Travnik, Kaćuni and Busovača.
